Program Coordinator

Job Description: DSU’s Program Coordinator is responsible for creating, driving & executing innovative and engaging programming, special events and camp days and broadening community awareness through communications. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator can brainstorm, implement and execute multiple events and initiatives in addition to the After School Program. Some evening and weekend hours required. Volunteerism in the community is highly desirable when engaging youth to do the same.

Goals:

  • Increase participation of school age families through After School Program (ASP), special events and monthly camp days.
  • Implement engaging and innovative curriculums
  • Streamline processes and communicate policies & procedures with staff & families.
  • Manage web site calendar and daily attendance

Program responsibilities:

  • Mentoring program – Engage DSU staff, middle and high school students to share talents through mentoring in capacities such as tutoring, outdoor recreation or special events (music, film, acting, art or other talents).
  • Create and maintain monthly and quarterly curriculum calendars.
  • Work with Executive Director to promote upcoming activities and events through posters, press releases, newsletters and social media. Provide spontaneous programming in the event of weather or adverse conditions.
  • Provide supervision and hands-on assistance during after school hours sharing the tutoring and recreational experience with students.
  • Manage daily attendance records.
  • Hold students accountable for good choices with clear expectations and consequences.
  • Review and constantly adhere to EEC guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare annual report cards for all students and implement strategies to improve student success in academic, social and physical endeavors.
  • Wrap-up past events – photos, supervise thank you notes with students
  • Manage purchase of supplies needed including food, crafts etc.
  • Complete daily planning of program end of day procedures and duties as assigned.

Skills required:

  • Academic fluency 3rd grade through 8th grade.
  • Thorough working knowledge in Microsoft Office including Word, Powerpoint and Excel, and Apple programs
  • Graphic design experience highly desirable
  • Ability to teach activities in small and large groups (sports, creative arts, outdoor pursuits, music, etc.)

Qualifications required:

Four year college degree is essential. Teaching license/certification preferred.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Experience in education or youth development

Team Player, flexible to a range of diverse activities

Effective Management skills

CPR & First Aid certified

Pass Background Records Check.

Position is Monday through Friday 1pm till 6pm starting January 2018. Schedule adjusted for evenings and weekends. 25+ hours per week, 10-month position. Summer hours available with implementation of summer camp and other activities.
