Thanks to several generous donors in the community, the Sandy Burdick Leadership and Scholarship Fund was established in July 2014 to support leadership initiatives and program scholarships. The fund was created as a tribute to Sandy Burdick, a Duxbury native and former DSU employee who continues to be involved in outreach and leadership activities through DSU today!

During her employment at DSU, Sandy played an integral role in creating our culture of respect and accountability.  She continues to energize even the youngest of our participants proving there are many ways one can give – at any age!  Initiatives that Sandy helped start at DSU like the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl annual trip and the Brownie Throwdown where we get youth baking brownies and desserts for Duxbury Interfaith Council holiday baskets are still going strong thanks to her continued involvement.

The SBE Fund is held at Fidelity Investments, and is managed by an appointed investment committee charged with fund oversight. Any contribution to the fund is restricted to providing a structured after school environment for elementary school students in need, and leadership programs for Middle School students. This year in particular, DSU has received far more requests for program scholarships than can be accommodated. As the fund builds over time and through our general fundraising efforts, we will continue to do our best to consider all requests.
